Beautiful Nails

Everyone wants nails that look absolutely fabulous so if yours are less than perfect, here are some top nail tips to remember.

One of the most neglected parts when it comes to beauty regime is our nails. How many times have you looked down on someone's hands only to find her nails chipped, broken, dry, bitten or discoloured? Now, if you are guilty of having similar nails, it is time you do something about it. No point looking great if your nails are far from healthy.

A woman who understands grooming knows that beautiful nails can make a difference. It doesn't take much to take care of your nails but it does require some form of effort on your part. Let's shares some top nail tips to help you achieve that polished look.

Stop the Biting

The first thing you should do when it comes to achieving beautiful nails is to stop that biting immediately. Some people have the bad habit of biting their nails when they are nervous. It is no wonder why these people are the ones with the most awful nails to look at. Also, think of the amount of germs you are ingesting with each bite! Isn't that enough to stop you from this bad habit?

One of the fastest ways to stop biting your nails is to apply a clear varnish on them. The bitter taste will immediately put an end to this habit. Also, if you are trying to grow your nails after the biting habit, invest in false nails. Use them until yours have grown in. You won't be able to chew the false nails and you will eventually get rid of this habit. By then, your own nails will have grown perfectly!

Start From The Inside

If you want beautiful nails, the trick is also to start eating healthily. Like everything else, how you treat your diet can make a difference on your nails - between looking good and looking dull. It is important to include certain vitamins in your diet such as vitamin B12 to prevent dryness. Also, make sure you include a healthy amount of essential fatty acids to prevent dry cuticles.

Be Careful With Them

Never use a sharp object to remove dirt from your nails, as this will break them. Always wear gloves when dealing with water and soap to prevent nails from drying out. Don't tap your nails on any hard surface to prevent them from chipping. Also, like other parts of your body, always use a good hand cream as well as cuticle oil daily to provide your nails with a healthy dose of hydration.

Home Care

You can take care of your nails right at the convenience of your house! Try this basic nail care routine at least once a week - first, wash hands with mild soap and also use a nail brush to give your nails a good brushing. Then, soak your hands in warm water for a few minutes to soften the cuticles. Very gently push back the cuticles if they are long and ragged with a cuticle stick, something you can buy easily at the pharmacy. Trim your nails to the same length using a sharp nail clipper.

Cut off any snaggy or spiky bits. Finally, file the ends of your nails to smooth them off. If you can, give them a good buffing using a buffer that comes with any basic manicure kit.

Go For a Treat

Every four to six weeks, sign up for a manicure and pedicure to give your nails a treat! Get a professional to give your nails the pampering treatment it deserves. If you are planning on nail varnish, make sure to use a base coat to prevent the varnish from staining your nails. Also, when removing any old varnish, use a gentle but effective remover to completely remove any stains. Once every six weeks, give your nails a varnish-free week so your nails can grow healthy naturally.

Make sure you treat your nails with the same amount of tender loving care as you would other parts of your body and you will definitely enjoy showing off those beautiful healthy nails!

Nail survival guide

Follow these easy tips below for beautiful nails always.

1. Don't use your nails to open boxes and packages, as this will only result in broken nails. Instead, use a knife or razor.

2. Drink plenty of fresh carrot juice daily, as this is high in calcium and phosphorus, which are excellent ingredients for strong nails.

3. Avoid filing the corners of your nails. Why? Filing the corners will weaken the nails and you will find that they will break easily!

4. When filing the rest of your nails, file from corner to centre. Don't file back and forth, as this can cause ridges and splitting!

5. Got splitting nails? Apply hand cream religiously, as this will seal moisture into nails, making them stronger. Limit the use of nail polish remover as it can make nails brittle. Finally, keep nails at a length you can manage. Anything too long will result in you breaking them.

How long? What shape?

This is probably the question on most of everyone's mind and we set the record straight once and for all: how long and what shape your nails should be depend largely on your lifestyle.

If you are active, keep your nails on the shorter side. The general rule of thumb is to keep the free edge of the nail (the white tip) no longer than half the length of the nail bed (the pink part). Petite hands look good with rounded nails while heavy-set hands look better with nails that are square.
