Regular and proper feminine hygiene can help prevent bacterial and yeast infections of the vagina. Studies have also proven that proper feminine hygiene can be important as wearing condom in the prevention of STD’s. Other preventive steps include:
- Avoiding irritating soaps (including bubble bath), vaginal sprays and douches.
- Wiping from front to back after using the toilet.
- Changing tampons and sanitary napkins frequently.
- Wearing loose cotton (rather than nylon) underwear that doesn’t trap moisture.
- Changing quickly into your dry clothing after swimming instead of sitting in your wet bathing suit for prolonged periods.
- Taking antibiotics only when prescribed by your doctor, and never taking them longer than your doctor directs.
- If you are diabetic, keeping tight control over your blood sugar levels.
